Abstract

The objective of our study was to evaluate transfusion practices at the Wilaya Blood Transfusion Center (WBTC) of SÉTIF, to optimize patient safety and improve the quality of care. This prospective study was conducted over a period of three months and included 3,405 blood donations. It covered the entire transfusion chain, including donor reception, medical interviews, blood collection, serological testing (HIV, HBV, HCV, and syphilis), immunohematological testing (ABO and Rh blood grouping, phenotyping, and hemolysin screening), as well as preparation, quality control, storage, and distribution of blood components. The results confirm an overall satisfactory level of transfusion safety, while highlighting the persistence of certain areas requiring improvement.
