Abstract
Food supplements are intended to complement the diet by providing nutrients
or substances with nutritional or physiological effects, such as vitamins, minerals, fatty
acids, amino acids, enzymes and other bioactive substances. Their main role is to make
up for nutritional deficiencies and improve general well-being.
Female and male fertility is influenced by a variety of factors, including
hormonal imbalances and reproductive abnormalities. Fertility supplements can contain
several components, such as amino acids, vitamins, trace elements and plant extracts.
This study examines the impact of dietary supplements on fertility, defining
these products, their role, and their composition, while exploring aspects of female and
male fertility and their respective causes. A questionnaire of physicians and a survey of
pharmacists in the city of Sétif, Algeria, were conducted to assess the use and
availability of dietary supplements in fertility management. The study revealed
widespread availability and prescription of these products. According to our results,
doctors perceive the efficacy of these supplements positively, while pharmacists report
variable availability, requiring better regulation.
