Abstract

El Casbah, the old city of Algiers, the Turkish city around which are pressed disparate buildings. Original core that brought the Moorish city of El-Djazair the nickname "Algiers the White". The old town is characterized by its patios in houses where sometimes hiding treasures of architecture. Currently the city is in peril and its heritage is deteriorating with the loss of its identity and its original structure. In Algeria, the protection of historical heritage is not appreciated at its true value. although several studies and research have been conducted for the conservation of the built environment, but unfortunately, few decisions were made. Thus this work will focus on the definitions of urban heritage, various types of intervention, the tools used, national laws and regulations, planning documents and the study cases of national and international experiences on intervention existing fabrics with a gait and effective strategy that views are successful .
