Abstract

Pharmaceuticals are widely utilized to enhance human health and prolong life expectancy. Nevertheless, they may simultaneously pose significant risks to both human populations and the surrounding environment. Upon entry into ecological systems, these substances are classified as environmental pollutants exhibiting effects analogous to those of conventional contaminants. The present study focuses on identifying the sources of pharmaceutical residues and characterizing their various forms. It further seeks to evaluate the potential impacts of these residues on human health and environmental integrity. Additionally, the research addresses the complex challenges inherent in risk assessment and the management of environmental pollution resulting from pharmaceutical contaminants.
