Abstract
Our study focuses on the commercial development of aromatic and medicinal plants (AMPs) in the city of Setif, through a survey conducted among 59 herbalists. The investigation was based on a questionnaire with 24 parameters, and the data analysis was carried out using descriptive statistics. The results show that certain AMPs, notably thyme (Thymus vulgaris L), chamomile (Matricaria chamomilla L), jujube (Zizyphus lotus L), and verbena (Aloysia citrodora Paláu), occupy a prominent place in local trade due to their high demand. The marketing of AMPs proves to be a profitable activity, constituting an essential source of economic income for herbalists, although they display variable income levels, with a predominance of average incomes. However, the study highlights several major constraints affecting this sector, mainly the seasonality of availability, the fluctuating quality of products, as well as high prices. In conclusion, the valorization of PAMs is not limited to a commercial activity, but represents a strategic opportunity for sustainable local development, provided that it benefits from appropriate institutional and organizational support
