Abstract

The work which we will present is devoted to examine the problem of the degradation of urban and architectural heritage in the old city of Constantine, and the need for its protection and backup, by a case study of this city, which is an illustrative example of the old degraded areas requiring intervention actions. Our choice fell on the traditional architecture by studying the sector of SIDI DJELISS in the old city of Constantine. Which is a good example of an historic site characterized by a rich but marginalized traditional heritage, And to achieve the objective of safeguarding the old fabric, and integrate new projects, we followed a methodology of approach of establishing reading about the history of the sector and its morphology, followed by studying its functional structure, studying its landscape and its socioeconomic practice. This study allows proposing many recommendations for the urban and architectural intervention that ensure the conservation of heritage and while preserving the identity of the area of intervention.
