Les propriétés de Rosmarinus officinalis et ses bienfaits

Abstract

Algerian plant flora is distinguished by remarkable biodiversity, hosting a wide variety of aromatic and medicinal plants. These plants are valuable sources of secondary metabolites, known for their significant therapeutic and pharmacological properties. Among this wealth, the species Rosmarinus officinalis, commonly known as Rosemary (or Eklil in Algeria), holds a prominent place. Traditionally used for its multiple virtues, this plant was the focus of our study. We explored various qualitative and quantitative aspects of Rosemary to better understand its potential. The phytochemical screening we conducted revealed a significant richness in phenolic compounds, including total polyphenols and flavonoids. This chemical composition is closely related to the plant’s important biological activities. Thus, we were able to confirm or highlight its antioxidant potential and significant antimicrobial activity, which are essential properties for health. Beyond these aspects, our work also examined, based on scientific literature, various properties attributed to Rosemary and its extracts, such as its potential role in blood sugar regulation, improvement of blood circulation, and its positive influence on cognitive functions and the immune system
