Abstract

Nowadays aromatherapy has become a modern therapeutic method that is very trendy. An ethnobotanical survey was conducted in the states of Bordj Bou Arreridj and Sétif to determine the place of aromatherapy in pharmacies and assess the knowledge of healthcare professionals working in pharmacies (holder, assistant, salesman, trainee) in order To better advice patients on essential oils. The information was collected through an online questionnaire and in the field from a sample of 130 respondents over a period of two months (April, May 2023). The results of this survey showed that (79.2%) of respondents are poorly trained in aromatherapy as they have limited knowledge of the field, particularly regarding essential oils contraindicated in children and pregnant women. With rates of 73.1%, 66.2% respectively. 35, 2% of patients are interested and seek targeted advice from pharmacists. So the pharmacist has a very important role to play. Indeed, he must provide all the advice on the use, precautions and toxicity of essential oils. This allows for better control of dispensing and minimizes their toxic risk.He must ensure the quality and compliance of the essential oils he sells however, the legislation is very complex. There is no clear legal framework for the use and sale of essential oils. Some essential oils can be used to supplement the normal diet. In this case, regulations have introduced an obligation to declare to the DGCCRF. The legislation should be strengthened by ensuring that the essential oils placed on the market comply with the regulations for pharmaceutical specialties.
